Membership
The Boys & Girls Club of Trenton touches the lives of more than 2,000 children and young adults annually. Our membership comprises almost equal numbers of boys and girls (55 and 45 percent, respectively). Approximately 82 percent of our members are African-American, 12 percent are Hispanic, 2 percent Caucasian, and 4 percent multi-race.
In the City of Trenton, one in three children lives at or below the federal poverty level, 40 percent are growing up in single parent or non-traditional families, and two out of three students entering kindergarten will not graduate from Trenton High School.
As a result of our mission and the economic circumstances in the City of Trenton, almost all of our members receive financial assistance to participate in our programs. In order to maintain operations, the Club raises more than 90 percent of our annual operating budget ($2.3 million in 2008-09).
