Merrill Lynch Interns Host Field Day for Club Kids

Boys & Girls Club summer campers got to experience a traditional field day in July thanks to the summer intern staff at Merrill Lynch. The 64 interns – mostly college students – planned the outing for 100 Boys & Girls Club kids at the firm’s headquarters in Hopewell Township.

The day included a summer barbeque and was packed with activities such as arts and crafts, three-legged races, water balloon tosses, basketball shoot-outs, potato sack races, and obstacle courses.

"I liked it when we played dodge ball and had sack races, noted Semaj Douglas, an eight-year-old Boys & Girls Club member. "And it was fun playing with all the adults who were there," he added.

Will Fuller, managing director at Merrill Lynch and a member of the Boys & Girls Club board of directors, drew a relationship between the interns and the summer campers. He encouraged the Boys & Girls Club kids, especially the junior counselors, to work toward becoming interns at the firm some day.

Lindsay Mazzotta, a Merrill intern who volunteered at the Club’s golf outing last month remarked, "It’s great to meet the kids we worked for at the golf outing, and now to have hands-on time with them is terrific!"
