Jefferson Club Kids, “Party like a Movie Star”

Inspired by the Academy Awards, Club kids at Jefferson Elementary created their own Fun Friday red carpet event: “Party like a Movie Star,” an afternoon to get dressed in their movie star best and enjoy a great film.

Members of the Boys & Girls Club came in their most stylish outfits to walk the red carpet just like the celebrities do. Club kids were dressed from head to toe in great jewelry, gowns and suit and ties. The evening began as most award shows do with an interview, followed by a red carpet walk full of paparazzi snapping pictures!

Prior to the start of that afternoon’s film, Nicole Sage, program director, the “host and emcee” for the event, awarded Club members “Oscars” based on nomination categories such as best dressed, best hair/hat, best bling, best swag, and best smile. Each winner was awarded a gold trophy, a replica of academy award Oscar trophies.

“The main purpose of events like this is to boost the self-esteem of each club member and inspire our kids to always have confidence,” says Nicole Sage. “I wanted them to feel what it’s like to be on a red carpet and live like the movie stars do.”

Many Club kids, unaware about big award shows such as the Academy Awards were excited to learn that some of the superstars that they know and love like Denzel Washington and Jennifer Lopez, are also members of the Boys & Girls Club.

Learning that stars they admire acquired their skills in similar Boys & Girls Club communities such as the Boys & Girls Club of Trenton, is an inspiration to Club kids to aspire to become just as great as the celebrities they look up to.
