Standardized tests make most people break a sweat, but not Amy Lai. A research chemist at Bristol -Myers Squibb, Amy lends her talents to teens in our SAT prep program. In fact, Amy launched this program in 2009 and has been coming here weekly ever since to teach classes, including during the summer months. In 2010, she welcomed volunteer math teacher Lynn Hutchinson to co-teach the class with her.
In her free time, Amy enjoys photography, cooking, writing, running, painting, singing, cycling, and playing piano. Asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at the club, she says, “It’s gratifying to teach someone something they didn’t know before and to see them go on to bigger and better things.” Amy, we agree!
Whether it’s one child or a group, Amy works with the students on improving their vocabularies and reading comprehension and teaches them important test taking skills. She brings a bounty of patience and skill to her job and works hard to help our teens build their confidence and boost their scores.
